A New Home for Aging in Place and an Act of Reconciliation
Réseau Compassion Network identifies needs in the communities we serve, and then invests in innovative solutions to make a difference in the lives of Manitobans.
Over the last two years, Réseau Compassion Network was instrumental in orchestrating a transaction that inspired a much-needed new home for the Benedictine Sisters, while also creating a new space for the Southeast Resource Development Council, an organization representing eight Indigenous communities who provide well-being, health and spirituality to members of their communities.
The residence and monastery of the religious congregation in West St. Paul needed extensive maintenance work. Given the advancing age of its members, the Benedictine Sisters of Winnipeg called on Réseau Compassion Network to support them in the next chapter of their lives, a move from the monastery they had called home for decades. While the building would be preserved, in a gesture of reconciliation, land that once belonged to Indigenous people would also be returned to them.
A project for now and for the future.
Réseau Compassion Network had the opportunity to dream with the Sisters about their living requirements, and about future possibilities for their new residence in St. Boniface. The result of the planning was a richly deserved new home for the Sisters, as well as a vision to eventually use the building along with adjacent land as an opportunity for the development of a long-term care facility to serve the surrounding community.
