Addressing Social Exclusion
Beyond the work done by our network members, Réseau Compassion Network identifies emerging and unmet needs in the communities we serve.
We then invest in bold, innovative solutions to make a difference in the lives of people who face barriers related to the complex challenges of poverty.
McLaren Hotel Redevelopment
As a proud contributor to the McLaren Hotel redevelopment, we are fully behind the repurposing of this 125-year-old building in downtown Winnipeg. It is poised to become a new project in support of Manitobans requiring shelter as well as safe, affordable, and adequate housing.
In addition to providing funding for initial feasibility studies, a Réseau Compassion Network organization, Sara Riel, is on site implementing mental health supports and services to address an immense need in the community. Their focus in developing a series of impactful services has been to meet the residents “where they are at” and give them access to the type of assistance they need.
More specifically, the team is working with the hotel’s residents to build programs around mental health, social isolation, and wellness issues. While the renovation has yet to begin, we are helping to put the necessary social work supports in place.
