From the Heart

30 January, 2024 | From the Heart

From the Heart is a space for the reflections of our staff on issues that matter to them, to our network, and most importantly, to those we walk alongside.

This month, our CEO Daniel Lussier looks ahead to what 2024 might bring for Réseau Compassion Network.

A we enter 2024, we are looking forward to the many opportunities that lie ahead to make a difference in our community.

At Réseau Compassion Network, we continue to let explore how our understanding of complex poverty can inform our conversations and the areas we think we can help make a difference. We are working and learning with community partners to find housing solutions for new Canadians. We are rethinking how we might care for our aging community across many different living environments and how to ensure person-directed care is at the centre of how we offer to be of service. We are exploring how best to contribute to an overall approach to better support people who are experiencing homelessness. And as always, we’re looking for ways we can continue to add value to our network organisations.

We also want to acknowledge that there are continued challenges with staffing shortages in most of our network organizations. Many of our network organizations have a mandate to ensure French language services which makes it even more challenging to secure a bilingual workforce. We are exploring how we might be able to bring various partners together to think through new approaches that could enhance our capacity to recruit and attract talent to the Network.

We also know that loneliness continues to be a huge hurdle in community, for people of all walks of life. Again, efforts are underway to see what we can do within a number of our organizations and caring environments to address what people are now describing as an epidemic.

But there is much to give us hope these days. We have a mayor in Winnipeg and a new provincial government that seem aligned to want to make a difference on many of these challenges. This is an opportunity for our network to be strong allies to help get things done and contribute to well-being of all those we are called to serve. We have a sense that people are yearning for change, for healthy and good relationships, for healing and hope.

Wishing us all well into 2024 and with the many opportunities that may arise.
