Short Course – Mindful Self-Compassion | Winter 2024

The Short Course – Mindful Self-Compassion (SC-MSC) 6-week program was developed to allow participants to begin to learn a targeted set of MSC practices with much less initial time commitment than the full 29-hour MSC program. Originally developed for physicians, it is also very effective for leaders, staff, and members of the general public.

Most of us feel compassion for our close friends when they are struggling. What would it be like to receive the same caring attention from yourself when you needed it most? All that’s required is a shift in attention—recognizing that as a human being, you, too, are a worthy recipient of compassion. Self-compassion is learned in part by connecting with our innate compassion for others and including ourselves in that circle of compassion. The practice of self-compassion also helps to grow and sustain our compassion for others. Fortunately, self-compassion can be learned by anyone, even those of us who did not learn these skills as children.

Jennifer Kilimnik and Andrew Terhoch will be leading us in a 6 week online course that will be held on the Zoom Platform. Details are as follows:

  • Tuesdays, February 13 – March 19, 2024
  • 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm CST

  • This class will be held on a web-based platform.
  • The teacher and participants will be live and visible at various times. There will be group and one-to-one interaction as you would expect in a traditional classroom setting.

  • There is up to ½ hour per day of home practice of mindfulness and self-compassion exercises recommended during the course.

The cost of participation will be on a sliding fee scale. Please pay at the level at which you are able, as proceeds support the availability of ongoing training through the Réseau Compassion Network.
