The first thing anyone notices when they meet our Accountant, Muriel Therrien, is her contagious smile. Muriel isn’t a ray of sunshine, she’s the whole sun. A conversation with her is sure to leave your cheeks sore from grinning and laughing.
As our Accountant, Muriel is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, maintaining invoice files, writing cheques, doing payroll entries and GST remittances, as well as preparing monthly financial statements and monthly bank reconciliations. In an attempt to preserve the environment, Muriel is also transforming us into a paperless office. “In accounting there’s a lot of paper and change is not always easy,” says Muriel. “But I think it’s important that we do our part to protect the environment, and going paperless looks like a good place to start. We just upgraded our software to reduce our use of paper and there’s more change to come.”
Muriel has a few hidden talents. She plays the piano, the accordion and the guitar. “I can spend hours playing,” says Muriel. On top of that, she used to practice archery. In fact, she became a national judge for archery. She judged the senior Olympic trials, the Canada Winter Games, and the Commonwealth Games trials. “Being a judge was an amazing experience,” says Muriel. “I learned a lot, I travelled a lot. It was amazing.”
