Every season has something that encourages a kind of nurturing. Taking time in winter to slow down and restore, leads into the excitement and rebirth of spring. That energy can get you moving in such a beautiful way – the windows get cleaned and the curtains are opened. This is both literal and metaphorical as the days become longer and our activities increase.
A friend of mine occasionally asks me, “Jennifer, what are you doing to keep the dust off your soul?” That question has become an important check in for me, to see if there are areas of my life that require some spring cleaning. This season, I am very aware that I did not make the time I intended to retreat, reflect, and restore that I knew I needed. We held our third ‘Heart of Leadership’ retreat at Hecla last week and that knocked off quite a bit of dust. Such a gift to be able to share in community with each other and watch nature wake up.
It was a reminder that every day, every moment we can become more aware, more awake to the world around us. Try to pause often to notice what is right in front of you, the things that remind us this world has so many moments of unexpected pleasure. Sometimes those moments also awaken sadness. We might regret the things that we have missed. Or feel the injustice of noticing beauty in a world where others are suffering. When those feelings emerge for me, I look for ways to share with others. I share a photo or describe a moment, just to feel that connection.
If you are feeling like you need a little spring cleaning, consider joining us in some of the offerings that are coming up at RCN. In particular, we have a small and committed group of folks who join us each Tuesday for meditation. It has run almost uninterrupted since early in the pandemic and is still going strong. Come visit and share your moments of beauty, just to feel that connection.
With Love and Joy,
Jennifer
