From the Heart

18 October, 2023 | From the Heart

From the Heart is a space for the reflections of our staff on issues that matter to them, to our network, and most importantly, to those we walk alongside.

Our Spiritual Health Practitioner, Andrew Terhoch shares a message of compassion and common humanity during a time of great global unrest and uncertainty.

The sudden eruption of war in the Middle East is causing immense suffering throughout the region and is creating sadness, fear and deep loss for people around the world. Staff in our community, volunteers and people supported by Réseau Compassion Network (RCN) are impacted. People in our community are also deeply impacted by the continuing war in Ukraine, conflicts in Africa and civil unrest and oppression in countries throughout the world.

The very public and ongoing coverage of the violence in the Middle East is a reminder of the atrocities of war. It also calls us to bear witness to atrocities in other regions that we are less aware of. Every life, every family and every community on the planet has the right to safety, equity and peace. We all deserve life, love and freedom.

For all those in our community who are directly impacted by the atrocities of war, you and your loved ones are held in the collective heart of the RCN community. For everyone who is suffering as a witness to these atrocities, there are countless others around you who are feeling just as you are, praying and meditating with you, and hoping for peace alongside you. You are never alone in your grief, sadness and fear.

Meeting these difficult emotions is an important part of how we can develop our compassion for ourselves and others. When we are able to remain present to the suffering that we experience and the suffering we witness in the lives of others, we can stay connected to our experience of a common humanity, the importance of belonging, and the thread in each of us that can contribute to a peaceful world. Even in the face of conditions we cannot control or change.

We hope some of the offerings available through our Network may provide some support. Consider joining us for the weekly meditation every Tuesday at 12:05, or registering for a centreing moments retreat.  Above all,
Live with love and practice compassion each day. Take care of yourselves as you support others. Reach out if you need a friend.
