Les suites Taché Project Overview

A First Project in St. Boniface

Réseau Compassion Network has partnered with CoHabit and secured land at 825 Taché Avenue for the first iteration of this inclusive community.

Thanks to the generosity of the City of Winnipeg, which offered a plot of land located at 825 Taché Avenue with a 99-year lease at a symbolic price, Réseau Compassion Network and its partners were able to begin planning what will be a new innovative housing model designed around the concept of intentional community.

The proposed project on Taché Avenue will include 65 rental suites, of which approximately 20 apartments will be reserved to meet the needs of people with disabilities who require additional daily support. The remaining units will be available at market rates.

A meaningful partnership

CoHabit’s is non-profit organization in Winnipeg whose vision is to build accessible, integrated and affordable apartments that nurture a connected community culture for all people who live there and are looking for a sense of belonging.

In addition to addressing loneliness and isolation, CoHabit will offer on-site services to remove barriers for people with physical and other significant disability to live in this apartment complex.

At RCN, “we often use the lens of complex poverty to help us determine where we’re needed most in community,” shares Réseau Compassion Network CEO, Daniel Lussier. “Some people living with disabilities lack access to appropriate housing and appropriate care due to their financial means or complex medical requirements. We don’t think that should be a reality in 2025, and when we encountered CoHabit and what they’re trying to achieve, we knew we could help support a solution.”

A mother’s love can be unbreakable, and it can also unleash a determination that changes the lives of a whole community. Margy Nelson, founder of CoHabit, an integrated, accessible and affordable apartment complex, hopes that she can help bring about beautiful changes in the life of her son Bryce, who lives with Cerebral Palsy, and others like him.

During the pandemic, people used to ask me how Bryce was doing. I would tell them he was exactly the same. He has always been isolated and lonely; it’s the rest of us who experienced it for the first time. That’s why CoHabit exists: to give people with disabilities a place to live where they can feel connected, included, gain independence, and find them a sense of belonging.
